GS TURNS ONE + NEW BLOG UNDER CONSTRUCTION

my craft blog turned one today.
i am so happy, i feel like a proud momma.
exactly a year ago cory and i were in bed listening to some music,
i confessed to him that i have never heard the song yellow submarine start to finish.
he thought that was craziness so he pulled up his i-tunes to play it for me.
he starts the song and we began listening.
it wasn't until about two minutes into it that we realized
we were listening to a song with no words what so ever.
lame.
we must have zoned out or something.
anyways, while we were laughing at the fact we were that pathetic.
i asked him why they would choose to have it yellow submarine,
 because green submarine clearly rhymes.
THEN ALL OF THE SUDDEN IT CAME TO ME.

yellow submarine.
green submarine.
a blog called green submarine.
a blog about what?
crafts.
a craft blog called green submarine.
and the next day while sub teaching at the high school GS was born.

i know you are thinking, why on earth is she telling me this.
WELL LET ME TELL YOU.

another blog brian child has been born.
(well it's currently in the developmental stages, like berlin is in her developmental stages in my belly)
i know you are dying to know how this new brian child came about.
WELL LET ME TELL YOU!

someone came into my work with some papers from a marketing company.
the company was called
SUGAR LOAF.

instantly i thought.
SUGAR LOAF
greensubmarine
a blog like greensubmarine called sugar loaf.
a blog JUST like greensubmarine called sugar loaf.
sugar.
you use sugar to make desert
cakes are a type of desert.
desert are food.
a food blog.
a food blog like greensubmarine called sugar loaf.

and so now i am super excited to tell you that i will soon be the proud mom to a food blog.
it will be just like green submarine, EXCEPT with recipes.
yep.
you know how GS is my little craft project archive.
well this will be my food project archive.

K300

last night was the K300.
it's an annual 300 mile dog sled race that begins in bethel.
with bethel being such a small town when anything exciting happens, everyone goes to enjoy the fun!
sadly i forgot to bring my camera, but luckily i still had pictures from last years K300.
(last year? wow, i still can't believe a gilbert, arizona girl has lived in the alaska cold for this long)

on another note.
looks like our recruiting is paying off,
we have SUPER close friends planning on moving up here.
i know i have said it once but i will say it again...
bethel has changed our lives.
sounds cheesy, but it's true.
we wouldn't be where we are today without it.
sometimes i think about what would have happened if i had said no to corys crazy alaska plan....
i know we wouldn't have a house, that's for sure.
looking back i have no idea how cory talked me into living here
but i am really glad that he did.
i might complain about this place now and then
but i really do like it.
life is simple here.

the house. or should i say OUR HOUSE!

yes.
we actually did it.
after months of underwriting.
many many phone calls, faxed papers, and long hours.
(all of which cory did. can i just say that my husband rocks, like seriously ROCKS)
we finally got our home.
OUR PERFECT FIRST HOME!
it is sooo cute!
now i can't wait to actually live there!
yes you heard me right. . .  we are not living in our newly bought home.
sad huh.
underwriting didn't like that for the past year we haven't had any bills (except a cell phone)
i guess they wanted proof that we could pay bills on time.
anyways, because of this we had to put 20% down on our home instead of 10%.
yikes.
there goes our savings.
so we had no choice but to stay in bethel for the next 6 months or so to rebuild what was lost spent.

BUT
even with all the blah of not being able to live there
we are still so proud to have reached our goal of purchasing a house after one year in bethel.
it was hard. but now that our baby will have a place to grow up it is totally worth it.

i still can't believe cory can get his arms around me and my big ol' pregnant belly.
this is a picture of our backyard and the awesome view from it.

my internet is being super slow, i will put more pictures up soon.

playing catch up: christmas

first things first. i had to get out of bethel.
the only way out is to fly.
the only way to fly is to walk outside in freezing cold to your plane
(there is only one plane).

second. i didn't have enough PTO to leave before christmas eve.
so, we left after work on the 24th.
and then spent the next 36 hours getting back to utah.
yes. it took us that long!
yikes.

but let me tell you.
when we finally got to utah... WE WERE EXCITED!!!
but there was someone even more excited to see us... well more cory than myself.
and that gentleman caller is OTIS!

we took OTIS for a long long drive on the 26th.
(since we were in a airport for most if not all of christmas)
he loves the car.
we did too.
being road deprived in bethel, sucks.
i miss being able to drive for hours.
its crazy the simple things in life you miss when you live where we live.

THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO MADE CHRISTMAS FANTASTIC FOR US!!!
WE ARE SO SORRY THAT WE COULDN'T BE THERE IN TIME FOR THE ACTUAL HOLIDAY.

BUT WE PROMISE TO MAKE UP FOR IT NEXT YEAR!
